Is Not Quitting Really the Key to Success??

levelupfitnesssupp

Sooooo January 10th, the national day of quitting, has come and gone and where are you?? 43% of folks who make a New Year's resolution have quit by now. The National Day of Quitting is the second Friday in January. Psssstt......I have a secret.... I never knew this! Until this year! Have you been successful? Do you plan to continue this trend of success? Why or why not??

Perseverance is the key to unlocking your potential, even when the road feels overwhelming. Every great achievement is built on the foundation of resilience and the decision not to quit when challenges arise. Remember, setbacks are not the end--they're stepping stones toward growth. Keep moving forward, no matter how small the steps, because persistence turns dreams into reality. Quitting is final, but trying again keeps hope alive.

MOTIVATION

There it is. But let's be real. Motivation is fleeting at best. The ebb and flow of motivation will not get you very far and you cannot count on when it will appear. So what do we do? We can count on daily habits, follow-throughs, and discipline. Discipline is key. Just like brushing your teeth. Now, understandably the fear of losing your teeth may keep you on your daily brush and floss schedule. We can still call that discipline regardless of the reason. Many of us on a daily journey to get and stay healthy have been 'pushed' in that direction by our doctor's orders or the realization that something needs to change if we want to play with our grandkids. Or continue to be active and healthy into retirement.

Discipline is the cornerstone of success, the bridge between goals and achievement. It requires consistency, self-control, and the ability to prioritize long-term rewards over short-term gratification. Discipline pushes you to show up even when motivation wanes, turning effort into habit and habit into excellence. EXCELLENCE. It empowers you to stay focused, overcome distractions, and hold yourself accountable to your commitments.

While it may feel challenging at times, the rewards of discipline far outweigh the sacrifices, shaping a stronger, more capable version of yourself.

While most of us can hold ourselves accountable to our own goals, sometimes we need help, right?? This is where our workout buddies come in, or several other tips on keeping your discipline in check. Let's go!

  1. Count on your workout buddy! He/she can light a fire under your butt if you need it and you will need to do the same for them.

  2. Create a vision board! You can include pictures of yourself in addition to anyone you find motivational.

  3. Sticker board?? Yes! It's the small victories and baby steps. Go to your favorite craft store and buy some fun stickers that make you happy. Put them on your workout calendar. You don't have a workout calendar?? Make/get one!

  4. Set small goals for the week, complete with a reward. Example: I will get to the gym 3 days this week. Upon completion of this goal, I will reward myself with a sugar-free latte.

  5. Remember why you started. Whether you have a vacation coming up or your doctor did not give your lab results glowing reviews, go back to that initial decision to get moving.

  6. You will NEVER regret going to the gym. You will ALWAYS feel good when you are finished. That workout will clear your head and regain focus.

  7. Remember that you will make some feel-good hormones like endorphins, dopamine, oxytocin, and serotonin. It's a win-win.

My son just blew through late tonight to pick up some banana bread that he requested I make for him and his girlfriend. I fired off the question to him, "what does motivation vs. discipline mean to you"? My Eric is an army veteran and I knew his answer would be unique. After pretty much repeating what you have already read above, he quoted Mike Tyson and I love it.

"Discipline is doing what you hate to do, but doing it like you love it". This quote emphasizes the positive mindset that we need to stay disciplined when approaching some tasks that might be unpleasant or challenging, but still committing to them fully.

Enjoy your week! I believe in you! You've got this! You can do hard things and be amazing doing those hard things!

Please add any of your own tips to keeping your discipline in line. I want to read them!
